It's annoying.

Saturday , January 29th. Lone Tree ( South Denver, maybe 45 minutes from DIA)

From the web site (in small font):

There is no cost to participate in the tournament. Those people signing up for
the full day event will be automatically registered for the tournament, unless
we are advised otherwise. Please click here to notify us if you plan to attend
the seminar, reception and dinner but do not wish to participate in the
tournament. Additionally, if you wish to participate in the tournament but not
attend any other part of the event, click here to register. If seats are
available, you will be notified. Please note that as this is a charity event, if
a seat is available and you participate, while it is not required, we would
encourage you to consider making a meaningful donation to YouthBiz.
So, you could play for free for prizes, which would keep this legal under Colorado law. However, I expect if you really want to play, you will need to pony up the $350 for all the events, and a automatic seat.

For $350, you get:
2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. - Seminar by Howard Lederer
A complete set of Howard's DVD's, a $120 value!

4:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. - Reception/Buffet Dinner Tournament starts at 6.

$100 gets you just the seminar.

PartyPoker.net

Just saw an ad on th History Channel for Party Poker. Many of the scheduled players had expressed interest in playing a tournamnent. We only had 8 folks respond, so I'm thinking a nice SnG would work fine.

I used the structure from www.HomePokerTourney.com, $20 buy in, T1000. Rebuys during the first 4 levels, and 1 $10 T600 add-on after level 3.
Total pot ended up at $180, split 50, 30, 20%.

We had five show up. Dom regaled with his Vegas trip report from the previous weekend, where he sobered up enough to realize that the huge stack he was playing blackjack with was black, and worth over 17k. He ran it up to 20k before going on a huge wealth redistribution program, and giving money back to the house. Dom turned out to be a decent player, using position well. He also kept the table running as smooth as possible.

Sumit quickly put Rob on tilt with his play, sucking out on many occasions. Rob bought back in twice. After winning one big pot and becoming the big stack, with about T3000, Sumit would overbet the pot 5xBB PF, and scare everyone else out. When Rob called him down, Sumit would hit his 2 pair and take the chips.

Bryan was trying to do his best Moneymaker impression, but betting wearing sunglasses while you blush just doesn't work.

Eventually I had a hand I felt I could the S-man down with. Pocket K's. Sumit had been playing alot of face-x, so I was pretty sure I was good.
blinds are 25-50, Sumit comes in at 200. I re-raise to 400. He calls.
Flop is 9xx, no Aces. He raises 200, I reraise to 800. He calls. Turn is an Ace He checks. I raise 500. he calls. River is a 9. I'm all in. he calls, and flips over a pair of 2's. Sweet.

This was 4 or 5 times as much fun as Party, and I made more money, up $60.

Rob managed to calm down, and fight his way into 2nd. Finish was me, Rob, Bryan, Dom, Sumit.

I almost feel guilty

Short story... On Party/Empire, I look for tables where most of the players are below the default buy-in. I'll jump on and watch for an orbit, to see how many are seeing the flop. I like to have at least 4 players pay to see the flop, and up to 6 fora full table. If everyone is seeing the flop, be prepared to have someone suckout on you all the time.

asphnxma: "Online, it's even easier to switch tables, and changes in table conditions occur even more rapidly than in a B&M poker room. Tables can go from extremely profitable to rock garden within the span of a few hands. There is absolutely no reason a player should ever feel compelled to stay at an unprofitable online table, whether the source of the problem is opponents who are maniacs or opponents who are rocks, or even opponents who are cagey, expert players. There is always another, more profitable table that is just a few mouse-clicks away. It may take a few tries to find it, and the profitable table conditions may evaporate within a few orbits of finding it, but it's out there.

Newer players should learn that this is a choice they can take advantage of. Table selection can and should be an active choice on the player's part, rather than a passive choice of sitting down (and staying) at the first available table, no matter what the conditions. To do anything less is to miss an opportunity to maximize EV."

That's Party Poker

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (7 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is SB with Kc, 9c. Players use odds to determine their actions. The chances of finishing a flush or a straight, the probablity of getting an overcard, the percentage of times you're going to flop a set to match your pocket pair are all important factors in poker. The details of the ruling have not yet been made public, but negotiators from both sides say the panel agreed with Antigua's argument that U.S. laws and efforts to combat Internet betting amount to anti-competitive protectionism of its domestic gambling industry.

...

Even if it is upheld on appeal — a process that could take two years or more — the United States can be expected to ignore it, he said.

“My guess would be that if it holds up, we would decide this isn’t worth doing and let Antigua do its worst,” Gresser said. Under that scenario, Antigua would have a right to impose retaliatory trade measures against the United States, but any punishment the island nation would exact would be "kind of trivial,” he said.

Best Damn Hand In Poker

Best Damn Hand In Poker: "The Fundamental Theorem Of 72o:
- 'Any time you aggressively play seven deuce off suit, the universe will bend the laws of short term probability in order to re-balance the long term probability abuses by those trashy players who only play premium hands.' - Celeryman, 2004."

Words escape me. Some were bad calls on my part, not giving the other player credit for hand ( not that they had showed anything but garbage before anyway.)

I keep trying to tell myself it’s just variance, but a red 4BB/hour over 1500 hands hurts.

After reading about some of the success others (SirFWALGMan) have had at the 25NL ring games, and thinking about my performance at 5/1 and 10/1 SnG’s, I decided to give the NL game a try.

First thing I noticed, suckouts are MUCH more rare, since I can make it far too expensive to just keep calling.

Second, I can easily trap myself, and really need to pay attention to the other players, and not WSOP. When a LAG just calls a pot sized raise, look out. It’s NOT a sign of a weak hand.

Over 4 sessions, about 6 hours of play, I’m up nearly $50. Part of this is just playing tight, with a little fear, and being aggressive with good hands. Part is having the deck just hit me hard for a bit, with a couple of maniacs.

New hand history

What does everyone think about the new hand history with Party/Empire and Pokertracker?

I think I like haveing the histories automatically saved locally, I just need to figure out how to get PT to read them.

Genius of the Poker has a GOOD session

"Well this is the part of my trip I've been dying to write about. It's a perfect fit for me. Why are NL ring games better? First. There is a different species of fish that play the NL ring games. SNG fish like to push their imaginary stacks around with more "blind vibrato" and tend to do it more often. The fish at the NL games are a bit more 'conservative' with their blind all-ins. You still see them but when you do there is a better chance that they have something to back it up.
